Appeal Allows Upwards Extension in Totteridge
“I have no words to express my happiness. You and your team have done a fantastic job, thank you all very much.”
It’s always good to end the week on a positive so this client feedback for our executive director, Danielle St Pierre and associate planner, Aleks Pantazis was very welcome.
Danielle and Aleks supported a private developer with two applications to extend an existing apartment block in Totteridge, Barnet, delivering eight new apartments.
“We brought forward a strategy combining a PD prior approval application (under Part 20) with a full planning application for the lower levels,” says Aleks. “Both applications were refused, primarily on character and appearance grounds, and we recommended our client appeal the decisions.
“The Planning Inspectorate allowed both appeals, granting permission for all eight new homes. The Inspector found that the proposals would not cause unacceptable harm to the character and appearance of the area and accord with national policy, which supports opportunities to use the airspace above existing buildings for new homes.
“In the current climate, this type of development is increasingly important, making efficient use of existing buildings and urban land to help boost housing delivery,” says Aleks.
